The book “Proyecto de Estructuras: la estructura en el proyecto arquitectónico” by our department’s professor Mrs. María Belén Orta Rial is now available, published by UPM-Press.
Due to the impossibility of applying the proportional rules of historical structures to contemporary ones, a set of alternative knowledge emerges to support structural conception in the early stages of architectural and structural design. This book compiles these updated rules. It includes proportional rules applicable to beam structures under gravitational loads and design strategies for horizontal actions. It outlines cost parameters to delve into bending solutions. The book also applies to three structural types: conventional buildings, high-rise buildings, and large-span roofs, featuring examples developed by students of the course.
