The R&D&I project Construction system for laminar lattice structures based on new high-performance timber products and digital manufacturing technology – Gridadigtion, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and led by professors from our department Almudena Majano (PI), Antonio Lara and Carlos Martínez, was showcased at the UPM Investiga 2026 Fair.
This research aims to promote the use of laminated reticular timber structures through an innovative construction system that combines the elastic bending of the material with high-precision CNC joints. To achieve a competitive solution applicable to standard construction projects, the project is developing a high-performance micro-laminate made from domestically sourced Eucalyptus globulus wood, as well as a multi-layer connection system that facilitates the assembly of lightweight, efficient and low-emission structures.
The work includes experimental testing, prototype construction and a full-scale demonstrator to validate the proposed structural model.
